About this Event
The Emirates Literature Foundation Book Club is a monthly meet-up focusing on fiction. Book selections vary across genres, helping members explore books outside their usual interests. It also allows readers to enjoy one of the best parts of finishing a book: discussing it with others!
This August we'll be diving between the pages of V. V. Ganeshananthan's Brotherless Night. This Women's Writing Prize longlisted novel takes place during the early years of Sri Lanka's three-decade civil war as it centres on a young woman, Sashi, who dreams of becoming a doctor, only to find herself pulled into the conflicts unfolding around her. Brotherless Night is a heartrending portrait of one woman’s moral journey and a testament to both the enduring impact of war and the bonds of home.
Previous selections include more popular fare like R.F. Kuang's 'Babel' and Bonnie Garmus' 'Lessons in Chemistry,' alongside niche favourites like Noor Naga's 'If an Egyptian Cannot Speak English' or Mookie Katigbak-Lacuesta's 'Assembling Alice.'
Is fiction not quite your thing? You can register for our monthly non-fiction book club here.
