The five winners of the 2026 Emerging Artist Competition will perform in the Emerging Artist Gala Concert on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 7:00pm. They are Jane Guillot-Beinke (clarinet), Madison Haugsven (trumpet), Matthew Hinkle (percussion), Hanna Noh (flute), and a trio consisting of Emily Aponte (horn), Evan Wilde (violin) and Hanyu Zhang (piano). Soloists will be accompanied by MU faculty members Dr. Natalia Bolshakova and Dr. Rachel AuBuchon. The winners were chosen from a field of ten finalists who took the stage to perform 12-16 minute-long programs in front of a distinguished panel of judges. The jury for the finals consisted of Dr. Elizabeth Crecca (Truman State University), Professor Ann Harrell (Emerita Faculty, University of Missouri) and Maestro Kirk Trevor (Director of the Missouri Academy of Music). The finalists had already competed and won preliminary rounds in their instrumental category (brass, chamber ensemble or jazz combo, percussion, piano, strings, voice, and woodwinds).
The February concert shines a light on the School of Music’s best and brightest soloists and chamber ensembles. The competition has a long history, and in the 2000s identified students from the MU School of Music who were featured in concerts in New York’s famed Carnegie Hall. The MU School of Music congratulates all the participants and their teachers who took part in this important event.
