Emergency Preparedness - Invest 90 Minutes Emergencies and disasters can happen quickly. Sometimes we have warning, such as with winter weather, other times, it may come from nowhere, such as with an earthquake or wildfire. Being prepared for all types of emergency situations can help reduce fear and anxiety and minimize potential loss. After conversations with some of our planning partners and with a major community partner, we are modifying our plans for the Emergency Preparedness Fair previously announced. Instead, we will host a ninety minute information session October 23rd at 7pm.
The first sixty minutes will be a basic presentation by Jodi Blackwood of CRESA - Columbia Regional Emergency Services Agency. A thirty minute question and answer session would follow. CRESA’s presentation teaches people how to protect themselves and cope with disaster by planning ahead. Their goal is to make emergency preparedness do-able. In this brief presentation, attendees will receive information on:
What you should include in your Emergency Plan.
The top five priorities of an emergency kit.
The three emergency kits you need.
How to build a kit on a budget.
Storage concerns
How to build a supply of your medical prescriptions
What documents you may need
Why you need to connect with your neighbors
How to stay informed.
In addition to the presentation, CRESA will provide informational handouts and brochures for people to take with them, along with a couple of give-away items that they can put towards their emergency kit.
