About this Event
The Emergency and Resuscitative Surgery Skills Course (Cork) is brought to you by UCC/CoMH and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. This 2-day course will be held at the ASSERT Centre, College of Medicine and Health, UCC, Cork on October 3rd and 4th 2024. The course is entirely practical, with no lectures. Pre-reading material will be provided in advance.
Day one is cadaveric dissection, a full day gaining hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art surgical skills laboratory. The course is geared towards surgical trainees and consultants who wish to learn the common and the less commonly required techniques and exposures encountered in emergency surgery particularly in severely injured patients.
A second full day will be spent learning to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the initial reception and management of major trauma patients. Simulated scenarios based on real cases will cover initial assessment and management of polytrauma patients and attendees will learn a systematic approach to critical decision making and intervention, and learn the differing and interchangeable roles that make up the multidisciplinary trauma team.
Course places are limited to maximise dissection time for each participant with one-to-one tuition from expert faculty as well as small group trauma moulage for an optimal learning experience as well as an introduction to E-FAST ultrasound.
