Emerald Cut & Rock Spring Run!

Our favorite KY based paddler is coming to town and we’re going to paddle in his honor! Come join us as we catch up with the Amazing Neil Kolodey and paddle Emerald Cut and Rock Spring Run!
Sunday June 9th We’ll be launching from King’s Landing around 9:00am. We’ll paddle upstream through the infamous Emerald Cut and up to the Kelly Park Bridge. We can hang out there for a few to socialize, toss a football around, etc. then we’ll get back on the river and paddle/float down to Wekiva Island (roughly 8 miles).
This paddle is kayak, paddle board/iSUP, and kids friendly. The top portion between King’s Landing and the bridge is generally clear turquoise waters while the stretch from KL down to the bottom of Rock Spring Run is tea colored but still clear.
If launching from Kings Landing a reservation ($10/per launch) is required. Go to https://www.kingslandingfl.com/bringyourown and book your launch slot!
King’s Landing Address:
5722 Baptist Camp Rd
Apopka, FL 32712
If you’re unable to snag a reservation, don’t fret, you can still plan to launch from Camp Joy, which costs $3. Be advised there’s roughly a football field’s length of open grassy area to cross to get from the parking area to the water, so kayak wheels are recommend if you have them and plan to launch from Camp Joy.
Camp Joy Address:
5303 Baptist Camp Rd
Apopka, FL 32712
We will self-shuttle vehicles down to Wekiva Island as early as possible. At last check the parking fee here was around $20.00 and subject to availability. People can leave cars and be shuttled to the nearby Publix as an alternative. Shuttles through King’s Landing can also be arranged for a fee of $30. Please note, KL will not shuttle inflatable vessels for safety reasons.
Mark your calendars, book your reservations, and plan to come out and enjoy the day with us! This is an all-day paddle. We’ll launch somewhere in the 9:00am hour and likely will not be off the water until 4:00pm or later so please plan accordingly.
A few notes:
If you’re not familiar with this river and find yourself separated from the group, please remember to stay to the right should the river split. The exception to this direction is the very bottom where Rock Spring Run meets the Wekiva River. At this point you’ll want to follow the signage left to paddle in the direction of Wekiva Island.
Be sure to bring sunscreen, snacks, lunch, and your sense of adventure! King’s Landing does cooler check to ensure alcohol and glass are not going on the water.
Rock Spring Run is a relatively easy paddle, suitable for beginners, which travels between the Rock Spring Run State Reserve and Wekiva Springs State Park. It’s absolutely beautiful and has lots of FL Wildlife. I highly recommend joining us if you’ve never been!
Can’t wait to see you there!!
