There are only 15 tickets available so get in quick! Your ticket price includes all the materials.

About the workshop:

  • Where: Slice of Life Gallery/Slice Next Door (1636 Venables St., Vancouver, BC)
  • What: This is a beginner embroidery workshop led by WTC board member Sadie Gilker. This workshop will cover the basics of embroidery by learning how to do a simple flower design. The workshop's capacity is limited to 15 participants to ensure a space where the instructor can work hands-on to provide step-by-step instructions. Participants are encouraged to take home their materials after the workshop.
  • How to get there: The nearest bus lines are the 20, R5, 16, 14, and are all within a 5-9 minute walk to Slice of Life. There is free 2 hour street parking along Venables, and on Commercial Drive. Additionally, you could take the train to Commercial-Broadway (Expo line, and Millenium line) and walk 23 minutes, or take the train to VCC Clark (Millenium Line) and walk 34 minutes.

About the Instructor:

Sadie Gilker (they/them) - is an Interdisciplinary Embroidery Artist and freelance Community Engagement Consultant. They hold a Master's from Concordia University, where they explored performances of violence in public spaces in Northern Ireland from the interdisciplinary lenses of Urban Planning, Performance Studies, and Irish Studies. With a background in research, program coordination, and workshop design, they value education and reducing barriers to knowledge in any way they can.
Sadie is an avid fan of cities and all their textures. They love public spaces and the people who use them. And they are always curious about how to make cities more accessible for everyone, not just a select few. Sadie values collaborative approaches to problem-solving and creating inclusive spaces.
Sadie grew up in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, Quebec, located on the stolen traditional territories of the Kanien'kéha Nation. They are very grateful to be currently residing on the traditional and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Sadie is a settler of Irish, Italian, English, and French descent. They are committed to deepening their learning about colonization/decolonization and dismantling systems of oppression to make our cities more accessible for everyone.

About the Organization:

(WTC) is a grassroots Vancouver-based non-profit that seeks to dismantle intersecting systems of oppression to transform where we live into places of social, economic and political equity. They do this with an intersectional feminist lens through civic literacy and education, research, advocacy and collaboration. Become a member of WTC.
