Embroidery is a versatile medium, and its rich history spans millennia and touches every corner of the world. It is an art that can showcase technical prowess, and conceptual ideas, and can be a valuable addition to any artist’s repertoire. In this introductory course, makers will learn a set of foundation stitches that will carry them through designing and creating their own projects, all while being encouraged to push the boundaries of the medium. They will also explore different types of fabric, thread, and embroidery styles, and learn a little about global embroidery techniques. We will be completing a small, instructor-led project with an example to follow but makers are welcome to bring their own ideas to experiment with! Supplies are included in this workshop.
Please note that our classes are typically held in the lower level of Arlene's. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
