About this Event
Learn how to make embroidered brooches with textile artist Shannon Quigley. No previous embroidery experience required. Basic sewing will come in handy - if you can sew a button, you can do this class!
During this workshop you will make a mini brooch that will be ready to take home at the end of class. You will also start working on a more detailed brooch, which can be finished at home using materials provided. After this workshop, you will be able to design and make your own brooches.
You can choose from a selection of brooch patterns, and learn how to make your own designs by tracing images from your phone.
What's included? (materials to take home after the workshop)
- Embroidery hoop
- Pack of DMC embroidery needles
- Fabric to stitch on - in beige and black
- Felt backing - in beige and black
- Multiple brooch backs
- 3 colours of DMC embroidery floss (thread) - mixed colours available
What else you may need:
- Scissors and glue // The instructor will have scissors and glue for you to use during the workshop. You will need scissors and glue at home to continue making brooches after the workshop.
- More floss // You might want more colours of embroidery floss. If you have floss, feel free to bring it with you to the workshop - especially if you have specific colours in mind for brooches you'd like to make.
About Shannon Quigley
I love embroidery and the slow art of stitching by hand. I design embroidery kits and workshops that help people build their creative skills. Before focusing on embroidery and starting Creative Confidence, I ran educational programs in museums and galleries. I am currently working on my certificate in Hand Embroidery from the Royal School of Needlework (online). I love making embroidered brooches because they are mini wearable artworks and have so many possibilities!
