Embracing Vulnerability in Compassionate Delivery of ABA Treatment With the R.E.A.L. Model™
Vulnerability is a topic in behavior analysis that is not openly discussed. Vulnerability is a private event and emotion experienced by practitioners, staff and clients that can evoke avoidance behaviors during staff training and interactions with the client/parents. Bringing the private event of vulnerability into public awareness is necessary to provide compassionate care in ABA Treatment. Compassionate care comes from the perspective that clients are seen as real people belonging to a real family and community where real connection occurs. Participants will be introduced to The R.E.A.L. Model (Terzich-Garland, 2020) where embracing vulnerability is the focal point in teaching for generalization successfully and maintaining connection with the client and family through the journey of ABA intervention.
Course Objectives
1. Participants will be able to identify values and action-based behaviors to ensure connection when providing ABA services with compassion.
2. Particpants will learn the impact of leading with ones’ values and why embracing vulnerability is paramount in building trust & connection.
Participants will be able to utilize The R.E.A.L. Model™ when they are most vulnerable and adequately prepare practitioners to provide ABA services effectively while teaching for generalization.
