Whether you’re new to Oulu or have lived here for a while you might feel a bit unsure about venturing into nature, especially after dark. The winter darkness may feel a bit mysterious or even intimidating? Join us for a unique guided evening at Sanginjoki, Loppula, where we turn the darkness into a source of peace, connection, and a little bit of magic.The Experience:
We invite you to step into the quiet, dark forest of Sanginjoki. This isn't just a walk; it’s an experience designed to help you feel at home in Finnish nature. Guided by a professional, you’ll be in safe hands every step of the way. We will practice simple nature connection exercises to ground ourselves and listen to the whispers of the winter woods.
If the weather is freezing, we will try something unique: a wool sock walk! Walking in the snow in wool socks is a soft, silent, and sensory experience you won’t forget.
• Pro tip: We recommend wearing three pairs of wool socks on top of each other for the best experience.
• You are welcome to bring your own, but don't worry—we also have extra wool socks available for you to borrow!
After our adventure, we’ll retreat to the cozy warmth of Loppula. This is a historic Forest Ranger’s house, standing as a silent witness to the forest's history. Inside, you'll find:
• Authentic log walls that breathe stories of the past.
• A soulful, candlelit atmosphere that feels like a warm hug after the crisp forest air.
• The perfect setting to share stories with fellow international residents.
Once settled in, we will enjoy traditional Finnish pancakes topped with homemade jam and whipped cream, served with steaming cups of glögi (spiced winter drink).
Dietary requirements: We want everyone to enjoy our traditional treats! Please let us know if you have any food allergies or special diets (such as gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan) when you sign up. We are happy to provide tasty alternatives!
