Embodied Research Lab is a new monthly somatic movement class led by Lani Weissbach focusing on creative self-expression through body-based practices rooted in Butoh dance. Butoh is a multilayered metamorphic dance form that came out of post WWII Japan and is a flexible medium for somatic movement education. The sessions will encourage individual and group exploration to foster growth and community over six months. Schedule and location: Class will occur every first Saturday from December 2025 to May 2026, 1-3pm, at Indy Movement Arts Studio in Indianapolis, with an early bird registration fee of $25 and a late registration fee of $30.
Class approach and content: This program will utilize a discovery learning model incorporating somatic movement, improvisation, and creative activities like writing and drawing, emphasizing learning from one another in a supportive environment.
Intended participants: Lani Welcomes people from diverse backgrounds without the need for formal dance/movement training, prioritizing trauma-informed practices to benefit people of all walks of life.
Benefits and preparation: Among its many benefits, participants can expect increased self-awareness, empathy, movement variety, and mental clarity. Attendees should wear comfortable clothing, bring water, and optionally a journal.
