PRiME Advanced: Embedding Inclusive Learning Environments: Micro-aggressions and their impact on student learning.
Description:
This workshop is for anyone who teaches students on the University of Manchester MBChB, and is working within one of our NHS or other partner organisations.
Micro-aggressions are ‘everyday’ verbal and non-verbal behaviours, intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory or negative messages, usually targeting people in marginalised groups. These can result in people feeling insulted or discriminated against, which over time, can lead to emotional harms. Evidence demonstrates that micro-aggressions significantly impact student learning; causing feelings of seclusion, lowered self-esteem, and reduced engagement.
