About this Event
This is the first of a series of volunteer events aimed at developing specific aspects of the Church grounds to improve its ecological status and allow access to enjoy this.
Durham Wildlife Trust is working with Elm Ridge to help develop some of the rich habitats in the woodland area of the grounds.
Through volunteer task days and through youth engagement initiatives, the group aims to generate a group of task force volunteers to act as guardians for the grounds while at the same time helping to improve its habitats and access.
Initial tasks will be to clear an agreed route down the bank and establish a clearing from which parishioners and visitor can observe and enjoy the rich habitats in the area.
Sessions will be designed to accommodate volunteers of all levels of experience and expertise and will be facilitated by members of the Durham Wildlife Trust.
All sessions will be fully resourced by the Trust and will include training of appropriate tool use and ongoing explanations of the environmental benefits of the tasks and their ultimate aims.
Attendees must dress appropriately for outdoor tasks, and factor in the weather on the day. The task time includes a break for lunch.
