In Support of Coach James Ellwood
As many of you know, our brilliant coach and dear friend James Ellwood has shown extraordinary courage over the past few years. After bravely battling cancer in 2023, James has sadly relapsed and faces the fight once again in 2025.
Throughout it all, James has remained a pillar of strength for our team — guiding, inspiring, and motivating us both on and off the pitch. Now, it’s our turn to stand by him.
This event is held in honour of James’s incredible bravery and resilience, and to give back to him and others fighting similar battles. All proceeds will go to Anthony Nolan and DKMS, charities that work tirelessly to support patients with blood cancer and to promote stem cell donation.
A Message from James Ellwood
“Hello all, and thank you for showing interest and hoping to attend this Race Night in aid of stem cell donor charities.
After four lines of therapy, including a self stem cell transplant, 80% of people recover from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Unfortunately, I’m one of the 20% for whom things didn’t work out.
My final treatment option involves receiving a donor stem cell transplant — rebuilding my immune system from scratch in the hope it can finally fight the disease. There’s around a 40% chance it will work, and with the success of my current treatment and a matched donor, I hope to undergo the transplant in late January.
Stem cell donation is a simple, non-invasive procedure that can save lives — including mine. Please help raise awareness and support the amazing charities that make this possible.
With love, support, and a bit of luck — things happen, and it all becomes a bit like magic.
I hope to see you on the night.
– James”
