About this Event
The Ellicott City North Tunnel is being constructed to prevent flooding of Historic Ellicott City, Maryland. This project will include a 1,676-m (5,500-ft) long stormwater conveyance system with three diversion facilities and drop shafts to capture and divert extreme stormflows from the Hudson Branch Stream directly to the Patapsco River. The tunnel is designed to convey flows up to the July 31, 2016 storm event (1-in-500-year, 107.6 m³/s) and remain operable during a 1-in-1,000-year storm.
