Writers' Workshop alum Elin Hilderbrand will read from her newest book, The Academy, and will be joined in conversation with current Writers' Workshop director, Lan Samantha Chang. Described as an "irresistible, deliciously scandalous story of one drama-filled year at a New England boarding school," The Academy was co-written by Elin's daughter Shelby Cunningham (who will not be present) and is praised on Goodreads: "Ever since reading Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld I’ve been hoping to find another one to enjoy. Well, Elin and daughter Shelby have provided an excellent read!"Elin Hilderbrand lives on Nantucket with her husband and their three young children. She grew up in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and traveled extensively before settling on Nantucket, which has been the setting for her five previous novels. Hilderbrand is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the graduate fiction workshop at the University of Iowa.
Lan Samantha Chang is the author of a collection of short fiction, Hunger, and three novels: Inheritance; All Is Forgotten, Nothing Is Lost; and The Family Chao. Her work has been translated into nine languages and has been chosen twice for The Best American Short Stories. She has received creative writing fellowships from Stanford University, Princeton University, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
