About The EventElgin Fringe PREVIEW
Dance Uprising returns to Elgin, IL this September for our second time performing at the Elgin Fringe Festival! For this year's event, we are performing "Gender Reveal Party," a dance concert with pieces based on gender equity themes. Join us on Sunday, September 14, as we share our PREVIEW of this performance happening just west of Chicago on September 24 & 25!
Inspiration
The dance pieces in ‘Gender Reveal Party’ have been inspired by questions of gender equity and gender expression. How do we each express our gender? Why are we at home with our noses to the grindstone? Would you choose to encounter an unknown man or a bear in the woods? What now?
Why Elgin Fringe Festival?
We heard amazing things about EFF from friends in another dance company, which convinced us to try it for ourselves! We had a great experience last year, and we’re so excited to be back. Support from the local community as well as from Fringe artists who travel to be here means so much. It’s heartwarming to be surrounded by curiosity, experimentation, and ART!!!
What will people get out of seeing this show?
Maybe you’ll scratch your head and say, “How do I express my gender?” Or maybe you’ll resonate with the disappointment of following all the rules and finding out that life still isn’t fair – and sometimes it’s due to misogyny and inequality. Or maybe you’ll watch the show and say, “Hmm, those were some pretty dance moves with that music!” All of these things are great, and they’re just a drop in the bucket of what you might think about while watching this show.
