Talk title: When life throws you curveballs, shout "Bring It On"
In July 2017, when Helen was 35, she in a very happy marriage, in a job she loved and her career was taking off but then her husband was diagnosed with incurable and life limiting brain cancer. As a result of the brain cancer, the brain surgery and subsequent radio and chemo therapies, he developed severe acquired brain injury and Helen became his carer. Her life got put on hold. She became a solo parent, and solo unpaid carer, for their son.
Overnight she became responsible for everything - the household management, looking after 2 disabled people, keeping her job. She also became responsible for the secret decisions my husband had made before we realised he was sick.
For almost 6 years, Helen lived life on my husband's terms, experiencing the emotional and physical abuse that came with that. I tried to maintain some semblance of who she was, despite this and Perimenopause starting at 39.
In May 2023, Helen's husband moved into a care home and she started to rebuild her life.
Helen's talk will describe what it was like for her to be a working carer, trying to have some sort of life, and how I turned her life around from a time in February 2022 struggling to convince herself to live to now, running her own business and looking forward to the future, even if it is not the life I had planned.
Guest Speaker: Niamh MacAuley
Talk title: Grow your business with video
In this session Niamh will be discussing the importance of knowing your audience, developing the right tone and creating engaging videos. She will be:
- showing video examples to discuss business vs personal in corporate videos
- looking at the changes in business video in 2024 and what to expect in the future
- and looking at the difference video can make in growing your business.
The audience will get an insight into various video styles and how to choose the style that matches their brand. They will learn how to brainstorm video content creation. They will also understand the importance of storyboarding and planning out videos.
