About this Event

On May 30, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Rideau Club, join us to be part of the conversations that are shaping the advancement of women in leadership, business and philanthropy.

We are delighted to bring back our famous in-person Entre-Nous Events at the Rideau Club, in partnership with The Foundation WCPD.

We are thrilled to announce that this latest Entre Nous features the topic : “Women and Mining: Breaking Barriers & Prioritizing Our Clean Energy Future”

The evening will feature opening remarks from Pierre Gratton, President of the Mining Association of Canada.

Following that, our panel discussion will feature three exceptional leaders in the world of Canadian mining - Belinda Labatte, CEO and Interim Chair of Board of Directors at Lomiko Metals, Beth Borody, Founder & CEO of Femina Collective, Ryan Montpellier, Executive Director of the Mining Industry Human Resources Council, and Heather Cheeseman, National Lead of Mining in Canada for KPMG.

In April 2022, Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, announced Canada’s Critical Mineral Strategy, opening the door to an ambitious plan to discover, extract and bring to market essential minerals for our technology and our green energy future. The plan not only underlines Canada’s commitment to renewable energy solutions, but also ushers in an exciting new era for mining and its role in the future.

Sadly, up until this point, women have not played much of a role in this sector.

Canada’s mining industry contributes approximately 5% to our overall GDP, or well over $100 billion. And yet, according to Bloomberg, the proportion of women employed in the mining industry sits at around 16%, representing one of the most under-represented, least diverse industries in Canada.Meanwhile, the number of women in leadership in mining is much lower.

Entre-Nous events are part of the Elevate Women initiative dedicated to advancing women’s leadership and economic empowerment. We are proud to continue this partnership with Elevate International and WCPD Foundation. Held at the historic Rideau Club, with its spectacular view of Parliament as our backdrop, these events are intended to spark conversations and connections that empower women to be leaders of change.
