This month we will be discussing 'The Christmas Book Shop' by Jenny Colgan.
The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan is a heartwarming, feel-good novel about finding new beginnings and the magic of the festive season.
The story follows Carmen, who finds herself unemployed and unsure of her future just before Christmas. Reluctantly, she moves from her small Scottish hometown to Edinburgh, where her successful but slightly overbearing sister Sofia offers her a temporary job. Carmen begins working at a struggling old bookshop owned by the kind but weary Mr. McCredie.
As she helps to revive the shop in time for the holidays: organizing displays, connecting with customers, and rediscovering her love for books, Carmen also starts to rebuild her confidence and sense of purpose. Along the way, she meets a mix of endearing characters, including a charming author, a handsome but mysterious academic, and Sofia’s lively children, who bring warmth and chaos to her life.
Set against the enchanting backdrop of snowy Edinburgh, the novel beautifully blends themes of family, forgiveness, community, and second chances, wrapped in a cozy, festive atmosphere that captures the spirit of Christmas.
