Join us as we consider non-hierarchical ways of working, empowering young people, alternative structures, and demystifying co-creation.
About this Event

Barbican, Royal Exchange Theatre, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and a number of other partners have co-authored a toolkit to help artists, organisations and communities disrupt and unpack the power dynamics of the cultural sector when working with communities.

Join us in Manchester as we consider different models of distributing funding, community decision making, intergenerational projects, shifting power and needs focused project design.

You’ll get tools, tips and ideas for small interventions, all the way up to remaking your organisation by placing communities at the centre of decision making.

This event is the second of three which aims to bring together communities, funders, artists, cultural and third sector organisations in an Open Space format to unpack and redesign how we might work more collaboratively and equitably with communities, using the toolkit as a jumping off point. Each event will bring together two chapters, with provocations posed by the organisations and communities that wrote them.

We will be providing lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

This event is inspired by DISRUPT toolkit chapters ‘Collaborating with elders’ (Royal Exchange) and ‘Shifting power’ (Barbican).
