El Mantis is a psychedelic jazz band formed in 2021 in Houston by Danny Kamins (alto saxophone), Andrew Martinez (guitar, vocals) and Angel Garcia (drums, vocals). The band was initially formed as a trio but has now expanded to a sextet. Influences include King Crimson, John Coltrane, Magma, and The Mars Volta.
After putting out their debut CD in July 2022, the band released its sophomore album El Mantis II, a vinyl on Houston based CIA records, in February 2024. Since then, they have performed extensively in Texas and Puerto Rico to promote their music (4 albums total). Venues the band has performed at include 1810 Ojeman in Houston, NMASS Festival in Austin, Sahara Lounge in Austin, Handlebar in San Juan, PR, and C-Note in Luquillo Beach, PR.
