El-Helwa performance project Malmö celebrates its Belly Dance community each term with a Raqesnii Schwai Hafla where we dance and celebrate each other. This term, Raqesnii Schwai initiative is inviting Rebecca Gouveia from Brazil to collaborate with Dina Hamida to create a performance project that will be premiered on the 26th Of May on our beloved Studiefrämjandet stage.
El-Helwa means the sweet or the cutie in Arabic and the artistic idea behind the concept is showing different ways of expressing the feminine.
The aim and goal of this collaboration are to exchange knowledge and skills and create a challenging choreography that showcases and mixes Egyptian pop with Fusion Belly dance.
We’re inviting experienced dancers and new dancers who are up to a challenge and can dedicate time to learn it. It’s a great opportunity to learn from different professionals and add to your skills and performance experience.
Registrations will open on the 11th of March. Dancers will receive a letter of confirmation and extra details of the time schedule, costumes, and practicalities.
The material will be sent out in the form of a video recording of the choreography in the beginning of April for dancers to learn and the rehearsals will happen in Malmö on the 24-25th of May, where we determine the staging and have a workshop-like approach for 12 hours together in the studio.
About Teachers:
Rebecca is a professional Bellydancer, instructor, and choreographer trained in Oriental Dance and Fusion Bellydance. Her style has a strong foundation in Egyptian Bellydance which she spiced up with some Brazilian flavor. She is fully dedicated to teaching, performing, and studying bellydance, holding regular classes in Copenhagen and Roskilde. In her classes, she encourages her students to use their creativity to develop their style and express their uniqueness while seeking to improve their technique.
Dina Hamida is a queer Syrian belly dancer, choreographer, artist, and activist based in Sweden. A founding member of Effrontery a queer, feminist, and activist dance collective, and project Raqesnii Shwai. Her main dance genre is Fusion belly dance with a background in contemporary dance. Dina’s main goal in my artistic career is to elevate belly dance as an art form and work to decolonize the dance scene in Europe, doing so as a performer, choreographer, teacher, and activist.
Practical information:
Registration: 11th March -15th of April

with your full name, The country where you’re based, A bit about your dance journey (style, years of practice… etc.), and a photo of yourself.
Detailed Video Material will be sent out in the beginning of April
In-person Rehearsals: 24th of May 17:00-21:00 and 25th of May 12:00-18:00.
Stage Rehearsal: 26th of May 12:00.
Cost: Early Bird 50 euros or 500 SEK. After the 1st of April 75 Euros or 800 SEK.
The price covers dance and studio time but doesn’t include costumes. We will ask the participants to bring their own. A Golden and White costume and preferably the skirt is white but mixing these two colors is very ok. A group chat will be created later to discuss details with the participants.
AND IF YOU’RE TRAVELING TO MALMÖ, We will help you find a place to stay with a local to reduce the costs for you and experience the feeling of being part of a community.
After the show, the participants are invited to have dinner at a cozy Syrian restaurant with a dance floor. The booking is for free but it has to be done because of the limited number of people. You can mention that in the registration email and you will get asked again about it later.
