ARTIST BIOS
The Wild Ones are an artistic collaboration between front man Kaiman Jimenez and DJ producer Kobra 3000. Armed with a bag of untamed melodies and a taste for mischief, this interplanetary duo of sonic manipulators are ready to turn the world inside out with a new live experience. Their instinct to merge iconic new wave sounds with cult Caribbean Carnaval rhythms will have you bouncing across the dance floor and chanting at the stars. With The Wild Ones, Carnaval is all year round and their sound, like venom coursing through the veins to keep you raving all night long.
El Gran Mono, or “The Great Ape” is the first authentic Picó sound system to be built outside of Colombia. Its speaker depicts a large ape, standing over the iconic Flinders Street Station of Melbourne, providing a direct link between Australia and Colombia. In the tradition of the originators, El Gran Mono will seek to promote Colombian music and traditions internationally, plugging into Melbourne’s already strong sound system culture. It is a decent undertaking – the main speaker box artwork in excess of 2m x 2m, and the full stack is over 3.3m tall; large for a Picó even by Colombian standards.
KAIMAN JIMENEZ (AKA Oscar Jimenez)
Oscar is a local musical force, hailing from Barranquilla, Colombia, and serving as an embodiment of Colombian Caribbean culture here in Australia. Renowned as both a producer and the frontman of popular Latin Australian bands such as Watussi and Amaru Tribe, Oscar has overseen the release of several albums and garnered awards and nominations, including recognition from the Aria Music Awards and Music Victoria Awards. Furthermore, his solo work has earned him the distinction of being a two-time winner of the International Songwriting Competition in the Latin Category. He has also graced prestigious festivals and shared stages with acclaimed artists such as Santana, Seun Kuti, Manu Chao, Juan Luis Guerra and Earth Wind and Fire.
KOBRA 3000 (AKA Carlo Xavier)
DJ Producer, Carlo Xavier AKA KOBRA-3000 is no newcomer when it comes to forward thinking sounds. Carlo has been curating high energy sets exploring future modern sounds grounded in deep foundational influences for almost two decades. His Portuguese/Macanese family heritage has nurtured Carlo’s profound appreciation for Lusofonic music and complex rhythms, and his record digging trips across Northern Brazil and Colombia have seen Carlo curate releases for cult record label Analog Africa, including 'Jambú, The Mythical Sound of The Amazon.' Jambú made its way onto Iggy Pop's BBC Radio 6 program in 2019, receiving acclaimed reviews in the New York Times the same year and selling out worldwide.
QUEEN NEDD & FELI ON FIRE
Descending on Melbourne Australia like an asteroid on fire, these two esteemed Colombian dance curators are no amateurs when it comes to high impact body talk. Commanding any space she walks into, Queen Nedd rules the floor with more bounce than Muhammad Ali and when not controlling high paced kitchens, Feli on Fire is cooking up mucho sabor on stage as arguably one of the slickest 'salseras' around. Together these queens deliver flawless Champeta, Dancehall and Afro Caribbean routines of pura calentura.
JUMPS
Jamshid Khadiwala aka DJ Jumps, best known for his work with seminal Australian band The Cat Empire 2001-2021, found himself occupying a unique position in the world of DJs and turntablists.
After years touring on the road, Jumps has broken bread with a culturally diverse fellowship of musicians and DJs across the globe. From Melbourne, Barcelona, New York to Havana, his knowledge and experience as both a performer and a listener, has been enriched and deepened by this journey. The record crates have since piled up, with Deep Funk, African, Caribbean and Latin rhythms shaping his sound.
WALLA C
Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, MC/Beatmaker Walla C quickly found a home in Melbourne’s thriving beat scene with his hallmark vibrant sound. A friendly face around town, Walla C co-hosts Fresh Produce on PBS FM, with DJ sets reflecting his producer inspirations, drawing from Jazz, Funk, Lo Fi Beats, Brazilian MPB, and of course R&B/HipHop.
An active DJ producer in the Melbourne music scene since 2015 and radio presenter for Fresh Produce PBS 106.7 FM. Walla C weaves Hip Hop, R&B, Funk, Soul, House, Baile Funk and contemporary Brazilian sounds into the airwaves and onto dancefloors nationwide.
LUNA
Colombia born, Naarm based DJ LUNA, defies genres with her atmospheric dance sets effortlessly merging percussive Eastern and South American influences. Immersing club goers in a world without borders, Luna’s sound indulges intimate soundscapes and raucous rhythms, as if basking under the glow of a full moon. With a residency at Club 121. Luna began her DJ career at her second home in Aotearoa, supporting international acts such as Paramida, Cinthie and more.
