On Film and the Program for Dance and Movement Present:
Eiko Otake - A Body, Land, and War
(performance, projection, discussion)
Friday February 13 | 7:30 PM
Spurrier Dance Theater
70 minute performance will be followed by a Q&A.
This new performance from acclaimed dancer Eiko Otake combines dance, video projection, and storytelling, and will feature two of her pieces: A Body in Fukushima and What Is War? A Body in Fukushima is a long-running multimedia interrogation of the body's relation to nuclear catastrophe and to the damaged landscapes of the Anthropocene. What is War? Is a deeply vulnerable piece in which the dancer examines notions of fragility and trauma during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945), while exploring the body's potential as a conduit for historical memory.
