Eid al-Adha is the second of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam (the other being Eid al-Fitr). In Islamic tradition, it honours the spirit of sacrifice and marks the culmination of the Hajj (pilgrimage) at Minā, Saudi Arabia, near Makkah. It is celebrated by Muslims throughout the world. As with Eid al-Fitr, it is distinguished by the performance of communal prayer (ṣalāt) at daybreak on its first day.In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijja. In the international (Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary from year to year, shifting approximately 11 days earlier each year.
