Effective standpipe operations require firefighters to understand standpipe systems as well as understand the tasks that must be completed in ordered to effectively operate from a standpipe system. Operating from a standpipe system differs from stretching a preconnect. How do you connect to a standpipe outlet and what equipment do you use to do so? How do you bundle your hose packs for a standpipe operation and how do you stretch the hoseline once it is connected to the standpipe system? Are you connecting to a standard valve, a pressure restricting device, or a pressure reducing valve and how does the type of valve that you encounter impact your operation? All of these questions will be addressed during this class. This class, through hands-on skills training will explain the WHY of how to best operate when operating in a standpipe equipped building while also developing the understanding of how to perform the tasks associated with operating in these buildings.
