Effective Communication and Getting Through Conflict

Please note this is an all day training. Participants need to commit to the whole day!

Part 1 (9:30-12:00) Effective Communication

Part 2 (1:00-3:30) Getting Through Conflict

These two sessions are designed to help attendees improve their communication strategies in order to navigate more effectively through conflict. Through active learning, participants will understand their own personal communication and conflict management styles. This information will then be used to develop skills and strategies to improve relationships with clients, colleagues and supervisors.

A certificate of completion will be provided to all participants that complete the session. The certificate can be used to apply for CEUs for various disciples such as social work, peer certification and more.

Coffee, juice and light refreshments will be available starting at 9:00am. Lunch will be on your own. An afternoon snack break will also be provided.

Trainers:

Tricia Driscoll

Tricia Driscoll is the Executive Director of the Center for Mediation and Collaboration RI. She hold a B.A. in Sociology-based Human Relations from Connecticut College and M.A.T. from RI College. In her 25+ years of non-profit experience, Tricia has worked to help individuals and groups develop positive communication and leadership skills. She has a B.A. in Sociology-based Human Relations from Connecticut College and a M.A.T. from RI College. She is a trained mediator, also certified in Workplace Mediation. Tricia facilitates basic mediation training, peer mediation, leadership development, conflict resolution and communication. She serves on the steering committee of the Bristol Health Equity Zone (BHEZ), as a commissioner on the RI Commission on Prejudice and Bias, and on the steering committee of the CIT-RI Kent Region.

Stephanie Manzi

Stephanie P. Manzi is a professor of Criminal Justice at Roger Williams University where she teaches courses in policing and criminology. She earned a Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park. Stephanie was trained in facilitative mediation by CMCRI in 2016. Since then, she has been an active mediator in the RI District Court and has mediated many private cases with specialties in family, human resources, landlord/tenant, and small claims. Stephanie is also an instructor for Basic Mediation Training, both at the Center for Mediation and Collaboration RI and at the University of Rhode Island. In addition to Basic Mediation, she also teaches classes on Implicit Bias and Generational Diversity in the Workplace.
