The East of England Asbestos Patient Support Group is a monthly social for patients with asbestos related illnesses and those who support them. We meet in Norwich, Bury St Edmunds and North Norfolk throughout the year to enjoy an informal chat with others, providing useful information and advice. Our meetings are hybrid meaning if you are unable to travel, you can still attend online if you request the meeting link.
Brian Wallis founder of the group and a Mesothelioma UK Ambassador since 2013 is also an active fundraiser for the national charity after losing his wife to asbestosis. Brian set up support groups in this region in 2016 to ensure no-one faces an asbestos illness alone or without support.
Our monthly socials are a chance to meet others who have an asbestos illness or who care for someone who does in an informal setting. Our meetings bring people together and attendees report feeling uplifted and supported by others knowing what they are going through.
Over the years Brian and the team of volunteers have built strong links to the Norfolk and Suffolk communities and we are proud to increase asbestos awareness and fundraise for specialist support and medical research.
We are regularly joined by outside speakers on matters of local interest, and we also enjoy days out to local attractions in the summer (Southwold beach hut) and a Christmas party.
We are also joined by Mesothelioma UK nurses who provide clinical trials and charity updates twice yearly to the group and other health oriented speakers.
Our meetings are accessible, free of charge to attend with car parking and refreshments provided.
