Edmonton Strathcona Footbridge

Project Profile:

This Edmonton - Strathcona Footbridge will link Edmonton to Strathcona County and connect to the trail systems within the North Saskatchewan River Valley.

The new footbridge over the North Saskatchewan River will include shared pathway connections and supporting open space/recreational upgrades on both sides of the river.

The design includes:

• A gathering area at each end of the footbridge.
• Shared pathways from the bridge to the existing trail system.
• Two viewing lookout areas. The canopies that were shown in the preliminary design are no longer included in the bridge to keep the project within budget.

Presenters:

Michael Paulsen, M.Sc., P.Eng. | Associated Engineering

Michael is a seasoned professional with 18 years of experience in the field of bridges and currently serves as the Vice President of Transportation Structures at Associated Engineering. His experience includes roadway bridges, rehabilitations, railway and LRT structures across Canada and in New Zealand. He is most noted for his experience in prestressed concrete design and in pedestrian bridges, notably authoring the NU Girder Design and Detailing Manual, as well as leading several iconic pedestrian bridge projects. He also serves as vice-chair for Section 8 Concrete Structures of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code.
