Edema is a condition chronically under-recognized and under-treated. Inpatient rehabilitation is an environment is which the opportunity to assess, educate and treat patients with edema can lead to far improved outcomes, higher patient satisfaction, decreased re-admissions and better quality of life. There are many conditions and injuries, including lymphedema, orthopedic injury and repair, venous insufficiency and organ failure that lead to edematous limbs. This impacts mobility, comfort, basic activities of daily living, and skin integrity, leading to progressive disability. Edema can be treated and managed successfully through Complete Decongestive Therapy.
This course provides clinicians with a thorough understanding of the processes of edema, the assessment and management of edema, and the value in establishing such programs in inpatient settings. Attendees will learn about the clinical presentations of many types of edema, the methodology through which edema is treated, and the value of Complete Decongestive Therapy. This seminar empowers clinicians with the skills required to recognize and manage edema, and educate patients in maximizing their quality of life through controlling chronic swelling.
