Eddie Montgomery member of the former country music band Montgomery Gentry is kicking off his tour following the release of his first solo album. In 2021 Eddie Montgomery released the album “Ain’t No Closing Me Down” which also pays tribute to his late Montgomery Gentry bandmate- Troy Gentry.
While part of Montgomery Gentry the duo released six studio albums which produced six number one hits and sixteen top 10 hits on country radio. Some of their most notable hits include “Something to Be Proud Of” “Where I Come From” and “What Do Ya Think About That”. The duo has won several country music honors including Favorite New Artist in 1999 at the American Music Awards Duo of the Year in 2000 at the CMAs and ACMs as well as being nominated for Duo of the Year for twelve straight years. Montgomery Gentry was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2009.
Gentry died in a helicopter crash in 2017 and Montgomery says his bandmate inspired many of the songs on “Ain’t No Closing Me Down” and the decision to continue releasing music. The Grand Ole Opry members made a promise to one another long ago to keep the Montgomery Gentry name alive. “I told T-Roy me and him sat down [and decided] … if anything ever happens to either one of us we said we want the other one to keep the MG brand going.”
During quarantine Eddie Montgomery invited a few friends over for beers and burgers and before he knew it the local golf course was using his garage as a concession stand. Before long the title of his debut solo album came with ease. “Ain’t No Closing Me Down” includes two singles “Alive and Well” and “My Son”.
