Theme: Cute Inner Gremlins
As the cultural story goes, our light is beautiful, but our darkness is scary and bad. Feelings are shameful. Anger is taboo. Fear is weakness. Sadness is for sissies. You’re anxious? Stop it! Be happy instead. You’re angry? Get over it! Be happy instead.
So the story goes.
To give our culture credit, perhaps all this would be true if good and bad people really existed. If there were bad seeds and good seeds. If we could say definitively once and for all that this person or situation is good and this one is bad. Certainty is appealing.
And yet we don’t really know for sure. Horrible situations helped us grow. But they’re still horrible…right? People hurt us. But we hurt them too. So who’s good and who’s bad? It’s not so clear. How should we feel about all this uncertainty?
Could it be that the darkness is really a long line of cute yet screaming inner gremlins just wanting to be heard and taken care of? What happens if we focus on caring rather than labeling good and bad?
Let’s find out! Calling all inner gremlins to the dance floor. Cute, ugly, happy, sad, cranky, silly…you’re all welcome!
