Interested, but curious to know more. Here are further details. After reading if you still have questions, reach out to us.
Absolute Beginner are welcome. No Partner is needed. We encourage you to wear layers of clothing which you feel comfortable to move in. Most often people dance in socks, but any clean shoes or bare feet are welcome. The floor is hardwood. And we have cushions, mats, and props available for use as well.
Opening circle offers space to introduce ourselves, establish guidelines and social norms for the dance space. Some of the most important guidelines are as follows: Consent-based space, sober space, non-conversational space (while dancing), non-judgmental, and no photo/video during open dance.
The dance itself is led by music from all over the globe, and from all genres. You will hear instrumental, electronic, and vocal music as well. Somatic movement and ecstatic dance can be a powerful tool for healing trauma and tension, calming anxiety, or simply processing emotions held within the body. This is a safe space to feel and move freely. The music will intentionally flow and ebb until we find our way back to stillness.
The closing circle offers an opportunity to reintroduce ourselves, reflect, and share our experiences and emotions during our dance journey.
Ecstatic dance is a practice that we believe provides release, restoration, and re-energizes us, as we process, embody, and dance through our emotions. We look forward to sharing space with you.
