Ecology as a Global System
with Lauren Lampley
ON-SITE | Thursday, February 6 | 1 - 3 pm
Blue Ridge Naturalist - Elective Credit
Blue Ridge EcoGardener - Elective Credit
Ever wondered why our storm systems almost always come from the west? Or why certain faces of mountain slopes are dryer than others? Sometimes while we study the ecology of a landscape, we forget that this small region we are studying is just a part of a global system. During this class we will look at how global wind patterns and ocean currents affect the amount of rainfall that we get here in Western North Carolina from year to year.
This program takes place both indoors and out. Please come prepared to walk on gentle, yet uneven terrain, and dress appropriately for the weather.
Lauren Lampley began her career at Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation as a Park Naturalist which solidified Lauren’s interests in ecology and a passion for teaching others. She has led walks and hikes in a variety of subjects from Geology to Birding and especially enjoys learning and teaching about our local ecology. She currently works at the NC Arboretum in the Adult Education Department and manages the Blue Ridge Naturalist Certificate of Merit.
