In this workshop you will learn the slow art of Eco Dyeing. We invite you to explore a range of techniques using natural materials like native flora and kitchen scraps. Learn about pot dyeing, solar dyeing, and floral print dyeing.
Darcy from Done by D will teach you everything she knows about eco dyeing in this 2-hour workshop, her favourite mordant is soy milk which means absolutely no chemicals! If you want to reconnect with natural, recycle your food waste and simply learn a sustainable craft this is the workshop for you! Eco dyeing has endless opportunities, and we can’t wait to share this creative journey together.
Workshop: Eco Dyeing Workshop
Where: Feld's Sister: 3/496 Marmion St, Booragoon WA
When: 25th of July 2021, Sunday
Time: 2pm – 4pm
Please arrive 15 minutes early
What’s included:
· All dyeing materials + equipment
· Expert advice and guidance
· Take home natural dyeing fabric
· Take home a custom floral printed fabric (exclusive to this collaboration)
· Take home a solar dyeing jar experiment
· Ántipotea teas + local kombucha
· Afternoon nibbles: raw treats, pastries + fresh fruits
· Community connection
If you are like us and get excited about collecting food waste, we invite you to bring along any of the following from home: (Although not required for the workshop)
· Avocado pips and skins (no avo residual on them)
· Coffee grinds
· Turmeric roots
· Anything else you think will stain and want to test
· Empty jars (If you have been collecting jars and don’t know why, this is why! Bring them along and we will take them off your hands.)
About Done by D:
Darcy is a West Australian textile artist focused on community, sustainable practice, and inclusivity. She investigates the relationships we have with our local landscape through her use of botanical dyeing. With over a decade of quilting experience Darcy has extended her practice into naturally dyeing fabrics which she then crafts into patchworks. At the core of her practice is a focus on inclusivity and collaboration, encouraging people of all abilities to engage with a tactile creative process, in order to view our local environments through a new lens.
