Composers Concordance Presents — Eclectic Bands for Theatre 80 — feat. Dan Cooper Qaurtet & Gene Pritsker's Sound Liberation
About this Event

Composers Concordance presents a concert benefiting historic Theatre 80 St. Mark's, which faces an uncertain future. Music in an eclectic range of styles, presented in quick tandem, will be performed by the Dan Cooper Quartet, Gene Pritsker's Sound Liberation, violinist Lynn Bechtold, and tap dancer Max Pollak.

A culturally-vibrant destination since the Prohibition Era, the building at 80 St. Mark's Place was once a nightclub where jazz luminaries John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, and Charles Mingus performed. Clark Gesner's Tony-winning musical 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown' was premiered at Theatre 80, family-owned since the 1960s. Now on the ropes financially due to the pandemic, this classic off-Broadway theater faces imminent closure. Learn more at https://www.historic80stmarks.com

Composer-Bassist Dan Cooper, whose compositions have been described as "invigoratingly eclectic to the max" (Strings Magazine) and "full of instrumental virtuosity and the sly humor" (Fanfare) shares the stage with flutist Bart Platteau, pianist Alon Nechushtan, and drummer John Ferrari. http://www.dan-cooper.com

Composer-Guitarist-Rapper Gene Pritsker, described as a “Mischief-maker and cultural blender-in-chief" (Fanfare) and "Intending to make music dangerous again” (Sequenza21) presents his trailblazing group Sound Liberation, featuring soprano Adriana Valdés, poets Erik T. Johnson and Robert C. Ford, trumpeter Franz Hackl, bassist Amanda Ruzza, and drummer David Cossin. ttp://www.genepritsker.com

Composer-Violinist Lynn Bechtold, described as "up-and-coming" (TimeOut) and noted for her "virtuosity and technical expertise" (All About Jazz), joins the Dan Cooper Quartet, and performs her original compositions 'Apátrida' and 'Murmur' for violin and electronics. https://www.violynn.net

Composer-Choreographer-Tap Dancer Max Pollak, a Hoofer Award Winner and Bessie Award nominee who was featured recently on a U.S. Postage Stamp, joins Gene Pritsker's Sound Liberation, and performs his original composition 'Power Base.' http://mxpllk.com
