ECISMA/TCCISMA Galaxy Scrub Work Day
Join us for an invasive plant work day at Galaxy Scrub Preserve in Boynton Beach. The Everglades Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (ECISMA) and Treasure Coast CISMA will be teaming up to treat invasive plants that are a management challenge at the Galaxy Sand Pine Preserve, with a focus on invasive plants that are difficult to get funding for.
In the morning, school groups will explore the preserve, learn about gopher tortoises and the ecologic impacts of invasive species.
Volunteers will remove invasive plants by hand pulling, hand tools, or treating with herbicide when students are off the site. Species include Sansevieria, Kalanchoe, Ganges primrose, Guinea grass, and more
Garden gloves will be provided for early attendees or bring your own and hand tools. We will also be providing herbicide. If you plan on helping treat with herbicide, please bring a spray bottle and proper PPE including pants, long sleeve shirts, rubber gloves, and safety glasses.
Please plan on arriving to the preserve by 8:30 AM and working until 3:00PM as long as the weather cooperates. Please bring snacks, lunch, and a water bottle.
The Galaxy Scrub Preserve is located behind the Galaxy Elementary School, located at 550 NW 4th Ave, Boynton Beach, FL 33435. Continue to the end of NW 4th Ave, following the signs towards the park. The parking lot where we will meet is located near the ball fields.
