Echoes of the Sivas Massacre, 1993: Sound, Silence, and Oblivion
In 1993, a group of Alevi musicians, poets, and artists were killed in an arson attack on the Madımak Hotel in Sivas, Turkey. This concert and presentation by performer/scholars Ozan Aksoy and Ulaş Özdemir commemorates the lives , music and artistry of those people.
In conjunction with the academic workshop 'Sonic Oblivion: Music, Political Violence, and Memory in Turkey and Its Diasporas' and the music mini-festival Celebrating Anatolian Music (7-8 December). Made possible with support from the DAAD Cambridge Hub for German Studies , the Faculty of Music, and Queens' College.
