About this Event
Overview
Big Art Day is a series of collaborative artmaking events where community members create large pieces of art. In this edition, participants will create large creatures by carving into wood blocks then driving over them with a 3,000-pound steam roller to create one-of-a-kind prints.
How Does it Work
Starting June 17, ECAT will provide woodblocks to 30 artists. Each artist will be assigned a body part (head, torso, legs) and have 30 days to carve their block. On July 20, artists will bring their completed blocks to Grounded Printshop and anyone from the community can combine these blocks to create their own creature. Completed creatures will be 4’ x 2’ in size.
Support the Arts
Big Art Day is a fundraising event. Proceeds support ECAT’s Teen Arts Program, an afterschool art program that serves teens in grades 8-12 by providing high quality, no-cost, art programs to students living in Erie County. Additional funding for the event is provided by Erie Arts & Culture’s Virginia P. Vieser Fund Supporting Arts in Education.
