About this Event

Overview: Join us for "Eating Stories," an immersive and inclusive workshop where participants are invited to delve into their personal relationship with food. This 2-hour session is a contemplative and creative space designed to explore the deep connections between food, memory, family traditions, and body image. Inspired by the themes of the "Eating Myself" show, the workshop aims to deepen understanding, spark meaningful conversations, and encourage the exchange of diverse experiences.

What to Expect: In "Eating Stories," participants will be guided through a journey of self-reflection and creative expression through movement and free-writing. The workshop will encourage you to:

  • Explore Memories and Traditions: Reflect on how food shapes your memories and family traditions, and how these experiences influence your perception of the kitchen, body, and identity.
  • Examine Gender Roles: Discuss the traditional dynamics of food preparation and how these roles are tied to gender, always approached with kindness, fun, and a touch of excitement.
  • Celebrate Cultural Heritage: Consider the role of food in preserving cultural traditions and strengthening familial bonds.
  • Unleash Creativity: Engage in imaginative exercises that nurture self-confidence and make the creative process enjoyable.

Who Should Attend: This workshop is open to participants of all ages and levels of experience. Whether you are a seasoned storyteller or new to creative exploration, "Eating Stories" offers something for everyone. To enhance the experience, each participant is encouraged to bring a dish of their choice (1 portion) that represents family to them—whether it’s a cherished family recipe or a simple food you had around you while growing up.

Why Attend: "Eating Stories" is more than just a workshop—it's an opportunity to connect with others, share your unique food-related stories, and gain new perspectives on the intersection of food, culture, and identity. Through guided discussions and creative activities, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of the powerful role food plays in our lives and the confidence to express yourself creatively.
