Easy-Peasy Regency Bonnets with Catherine Scholar

Are you a Jane Austen fan? Dying to get your Bridgerton on? Or just in love with the easy elegance of the early 19th-century Regency era?
Come make an adorable and easy soft-crowned bonnet, the perfect finishing touch for all your Regency fashions. We will use a purchased straw sun hat to make this a quick, easy, and fun project. For inspiration please visit pinterest.com/cjscholar/lunardi-and-capote/capote.
PREREQUISITES: Familiarity with the operation of a sewing machine.
The fee for the class is $75. There's also a $15 kit fee, payable to Catherine. This includes pattern, handout, hat base, and millinery wire.
MATERIALS:
• Taffeta fabric, one yard. Solids, stripes, plaids, patterns all fine
• One yard organdy, organza, or stiff netting for stiffener
• 1/4 yard cotton or linen for lining
• 2/3 yard drawstring (ribbon, twill tape) for lining
• Thread to match fabric and lining
• Trims as desired: ribbons, feathers, flowers, etc.
ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES:
• Sewing machine with bobbins and needles
• Fabric scissors, thread snips
• Pins
• Fabric marking tool (chalk, Frixion pen, etc.)
• Clear ruler
• Hand-sewing tools, including needles, beeswax, thimble
INSTRUCTOR:
Catherine Scholar read “Little House on the Prairie” at age five and has been obsessed with historic clothing ever since. She learned to sew at her mother’s knee and to embroider at her grandmother’s. She has pursued the historic costuming hobby for thirty years and has taught many costuming workshops for the Greater Bay Area Costumers Guild (GBACG) and Costume College. Catherine served on the board of the Greater Bay Area Costumers Guild for 10 years as Newsletter Editor, Events Coordinator, and President.
