Sometimes people think there is nothing for them in a shop that focuses on history and heritage crafts and skills. But really, everything old IS new again, and many of the heritage crafts we sell and teach have very modern applications.

Taught by Carol Saloum (Mistress Courture), one our our member artisans, you will learn to make a summer wrap skirt, using a pattern guide from the 1500s for a typical Spanish underskirt.

Sewing skills required: none

Ahead of the class, to determine the yardage of material required, please supply the following:

1. Your waist measurement
2. Measurement from your waist to the length you want your skirt
3. How much overlap you want - options are 1.5 x, 1.4 x, or 1.3 x your waist measurement
4. Do you want to make a fabric tie for the waist? Or, would you like to use a colored twill tape (available for purchase at the store) for your waistband tie?
4. The width of the fabric you intend to use

We have an assortment of 100% cotton block print fabrics available for sale that would be ideal for this type of skirt. If you prefer, you may bring your own pre-washed fabric.

What you will learn:

1. How to cut out your skirt by folding your fabric and marking a radius to cut
2. How to use a narrow rolled hem foot for hemming
3. How to press bias tape.

What will be supplied for use at the class:

1. Information on creating your pattern on your fabric
2. Assorted colors of thread
3. Narrow rolled hem sewing machine presser foot
4. Bias tape maker
5. Limited number of sewing machines
6. Ironing board and iron
7. Rotary cutter and mat.

What you need to bring:

1. Fabric cutting scissors and thread snips
2. Sewing machine (if you have one)
.
Fabric can be pre-purchased or purchased at class time
If you want to ensure the best color match on thread, bring your own.

Class is $30 per person. LImited do to five (5) participants. To ask questions contact Carol at [email protected]. To register use this link https://forms.gle/Sh7esGGgKjF9Ynad7 .
