About this Event
Why does East County need shared housing?
Too many people on fixed incomes are house rich but cash poor, on the brink of losing their homes and joining the fastest growing segment of newly homeless: seniors.
Too many doubled-up families with children don’t have tenancy rights, so parents could drop their child off at school in the morning but have no home for them in the afternoon.
Too many trusted messengers – faith communities, healthcare providers, school staff, social workers, first responders – can’t provide the one thing our homeless and housing-insecure neighbors need most: a home.
Shared housing harnesses the resources we already have in our communities (homes and paying tenants) to make more housing available right now.
Please join us on October 9 to learn:
- What shared housing is and how it works
- How potential housemates are screened and matched for safety and compatibility
- What kind of follow-up conflict mediation services are offered
- Ways your organization can help connect your clients, patients, and congregation members to safe, stable, affordable shared housing
Who should attend?
- Faith community leaders and key ministry volunteers
- Homeless outreach workers and housing navigators
- Senior services providers
- School counselors and McKinney-Vento Act representatives
- Landlords and apartment managers
- Healthcare social workers and patient welfare specialists
- Law enforcement supervisors for HART/HOT and welfare check teams
