Course Description: Part of the Art and The Expanded Field pop up programming series, in this course you'll learn to process earth pigments into artist grade materials. This class combines lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice to guide you through the essential techniques to process and apply these materials in your artwork, while gaining insights into the historical and contemporary practices of pigment gathering.
Instructor Bios:
Jen DeLuna (b. 1999) is a painter based in Boston. She holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University. She has exhibited across the country including at Storage Gallery, New York City, NY; I.R.L Gallery, New York City, NY; Ely Center of Contemporary Art, New Haven, CT; and the Miller Institute of Contemporary Art, Pittsburgh, PA.
Iz Horgan (b. 2000) is an artist living and working in Providence, Rhode Island. She is an MFA candidate in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, and she holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University. She was accepted into Yale Norfolk School of Art. During her time at Carnegie Mellon, she received the Samuel Rosenberg Award, Anne Ophelia Dowden Award, and a Summer Research Fellowship. She has exhibited in the Miller Institute of Contemporary Art in Pittsburgh, Pa. At the inaugural Pittsburgh Art Book Fair she debuted two art book publications.
