🍃For Contact Improvisers with some experience of CI fundamentals & the basics of 'flying', 'basing' and inverting (being upside-down)
Great value 3 - session places available, or book for any single sessions
Attending all 3 days is recommended for a deeper, broader, more enriching experience
A helper place & a supported-price bursary place available - please ask!
During each 4-hour afternoon session we will focus on 3 different elements:
🐾Element 1: FEET FIRST- entering contact with our partners first with our feet, and exploring how our legs connect to our middles beyond their role as supports Freeing up our feet, or a foot, from weight-bearing. What may feet do? What options are available to take my own body-weight out of my feet, so they are available (so, pouring weight instead into our hands, bums, sides, tums... We’ll explore the surfaces of the feet – the soles, the toes, the sides, the tops, and what they offer. We will train our feet to channel some weight into a partner (but not standing on our partner); or to make suggestions to a partner. We'll look at making pathways from first contact with a toe, along a leg to the middle of our body - maintaining clear contact the whole time. What purpose do such pathways serve? We will train and explore our feet offering a surface for weight to be poured into, enabling another's pathways through space.
🙃Element 2: TURN OUR WORLDS UPSIDE-DOWN- headstands, headfirst, heads down - pouring towards the head - safety: protecting our heads - how to free up in this orientation, how to enter the backspace from an inverted position... how to create pathways lead by the weight of the head, while staying relaxed and spacious in all our movement.
🪶Element 3: ALTERNATIVE FLIGHT PATHS - Flyers will explore ways to pour in (offer, give) up to 100% of your body weight, while keeping body relaxed and options open, in somatic dialogue with your partner/s. Bases will explore ways to (offer to) receive body weight in clear, creative, safe and open (non-manipulative) ways. We will research organically weaving in flights to the rest of the CI dance, and creating linking pathways from one flight to another, or from flight to earth. We will explore the interchange between roles, whatever your stature or strength - adapting to your qualities.
**If you're not sure if these workshop days are right for you, with your experience, please discuss with Asher. You don't have to have mastered the skills, you need to have a basic grounding, and an ability to keep yourself safe.

A little context
🪷Deep listening and freely responding in the moment are at the heart of my CI practice. However, I wouldn’t be half as free, safe or aware of the multitude of options without training with a wide range of creative movement pathways to understand what makes them flow: the inherent relationship between physics, anatomy, communication and timing. I’m lucky to have acquired these loose choreographies over 25 years from great CI masters, mistresses, and fellow explorers.
In my own, ongoing research, I've been inspired to continue researching and developing further pathways and patterns. I’ve gathered some of them together and continue to explore - to extend possibilities for Contact Improvisers with some experience. It’s an ongoing process of muses, research, training, discovery, and play.
I’d like to share some of the fruits of this with you to help your dances become fresher, funner & juicier!
Extra lush! 🎶🎵 🎺On 22nd March 2026, will be accompanied by maestro trumpeter, Bristol's very own Pete Judge, from Get The Blessing.
