Celebrate Earth Day with us on Saturday, April 5, from 9 am to 12 pm at the UF/IFAS Master Gardener Nursery in Hernando County! Our event promises a fun-filled blend of activities and information to honor our planet.One of the highlights of the day will be our nursery, offering a variety of beautiful native and Florida-Friendly plants for sale. Enhance your garden while supporting sustainable landscaping practices!
Throughout the event, there will be booths featuring various Earth Day topics, along with multiple presenters sharing their expertise:
• 9:30 am – The Importance of Recycling
Presented by Liana Teague, Hernando County Recycling Coordinator
Learn how recycling benefits your community and the environment in this informative session. Liana Teague will discuss best practices, common recycling mistakes, and how Hernando County’s recycling program works to reduce waste and conserve resources.
• 10:15 am – Living With Coyotes
Presented by Stephanie Stoeffler, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission
Discover practical tips for safely coexisting with coyotes and learn about their behavior, habitat, and role in Florida’s ecosystem. Gain insights on how to prevent conflicts and protect pets while respecting wildlife.
• 11:00 am – Pollinator Gardens
Presented by Cheryl Bulat, Master Gardener Learn about the importance of pollinator gardens and how you can create your own to support local biodiversity.
In addition to these informative presentations, there will be plenty of activities for kids to enjoy, fostering a love for nature and environmental stewardship from a young age.
