Celebrate Earth Day at Snug Harbor! Choose your own adventure in sustainability, from stewarding the wetlands and waterfront, learning to care for trees, composting on the Heritage Farm, and identifying trees in a scavenger hunt.WHEN: April 19 (times vary by event)

Farm Stewardship (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) – Help the Heritage Farm with bed building, bed prep, seeding, weeding and more, while learning how a small-scale sustainable urban farm operates
Heritage Farm and Compost Tour (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM) – Tour our sustainable urban farm and composting site
Compost Processing Workday (1:00 PM – 2:30 PM) – Learn how to produce compost at home, how to mix your greens and browns into your compost pile, and the importance of mitigating food waste through composting practices
Lawn Care with Compost (1:30 PM – 2:30 PM) – Learn the importance of compost in caring for your own lawn
Cooking Demo with the Sylvia Center (2:30 PM – 3:30 PM)
Art of Natural Dyeing (3:30 PM – 5:00 PM) – Bring some clothing to upcycle and learn how different food scraps can be used to create fabric dyes
Trees:
Tree ID Scavenger Hunt (10:00 AM – 2:15 PM) – Fun for families and young econauts, with a chance to win a sustainability prize!
Tree Mulching Workshop (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM) – Learn why and how to mulch trees while helping nourish the ones at Snug Harbor
Tree Pruning and Maintenance Workshop (11:00 AM – 12:30 PM) – Learn how to care for your own trees for their long-term health
Water:
Waterfront Clean Up (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM) – Pitch in to help remove the trash along the shorelines
Wetlands Clean Up (12:30 PM – 2:30 PM) – Continue our journey into the wetlands to remove trash and invasive plants
Flood Sensor Aunty Performance (1:30 PM – 2:30 PM) – Enjoy a funny and informative performance about the best way to protect yourself from flooding, climate change, and despair
