As part of the programming for "Accretion: Works by Latin American Women", exhibiting artist Jackie Amézquita will join us to discuss her distinctive artistic practice.Amézquita will discuss using biomaterials in her work and how these elements carry their memory. These materials represent the complex web of global trade and human activity transcending geographical boundaries. This material co-existence is a metaphor for our challenges in an increasingly interconnected world and foregrounds the transformative power of interconnection. By embedding fossils and shells—remnants of ancient life—alongside vibrant plant and animal pigments, Amézquita creates a dialogue between past and present, native and foreign representing the earth upon which these diverse elements coexist.
