Six-Week-Long Earn-A-Bike Class at U. City's Millar Park pavilion
About this Event

BWorks Earn-A-Bike is a hands-on class that teaches basic bicycle maintenance and safety while fostering important life skills including communication, teamwork and responsibility to children ages 8-17 who can already ride a bike. It is always free to participants. After completing a consecutive series of six (two-hour) classes, participants earn a refurbished bicycle and brand-new helmet, light set and lock.

Students who commit to this series will meet at Millar Park in University City for the first three Thursday evenings (8/21, 8/28 and 9/4, beginning each week at 6 p.m. (with each class ending at 8 p.m.), and then at Heman Park Community Center for the final three Thursday evenings (9/11, 9/18 and 9/25).

The first class meeting is Thursday, August 21, and graduation day (the final class, which includes a graduation ride on the students’ newly earned bikes!) will be Thursday, September 25. Students must consistently attend the classes to earn their bike.

Big thanks to the University City Police Department for its enthusiastic logistical and financial support that is helping make this possible!

Requirements for this course:

1) To participate in this class, students must already be able to ride a bicycle comfortably on their own — without assistance or training wheels. (We regularly offer a separate course for students ages 8 to 17 who do not yet know how to ride a bike, called Learn-To-Ride. If your child cannot yet ride, please reach out to [email protected] so she can get you on our waitlist for that other course.)

2) A parent/guardian must attend the first few minutes of the first of the six classes and fill out a brief release form. We also limit each family to two registrants per session, and students must be between the ages of 8-17.
